Area Code List
[Turkey went from six (2+4) to seven digits (3+4) local phone
numbers c.1988, at which time Ankara went from 41 to 4.
Before the city codes were revamped (see below), the Turkish-occupied
part of Cyprus was sometimes noted as having country code 905, i.e.
90 (Turkey) + 5 (area code for Cyprus points); this apparently affected
all city codes which started with 5, except for 51.

"The telephone numbering system in Turkey has recently been revamped.
There used to be more than 5000 local area codes of varying lengths
(one to five digits to the best of my knowledge) with correspondingly
varying local number lengths (seven to three digits).
"The new system is based on 77 three-digit area codes for provinces and
seven digit local phone numbers. Istanbul is the exception and it gets
three area codes (I think two for the European side and one for the
Asian side).
"0 will be the long distance dialing prefix while the international
dialing prefix will be 00."
Local numbers in most areas were also changed in conjunction with the
numbering plan that took effect 1 August 1993. A list of the new area
